Smokin Gunns BBQ is run by husband and wife team Tommy and Jody. Built around family, food and fire, their business is a reflection of a life shared and a passion grown together. Three years ago, they moved from Brisbane to the Whitsundays to follow a slower, more intentional way of life, creating a family-run food truck that celebrates connection, community and great barbecue, alongside their daughter Charlotte.

Tommy - The Pitmaster

Tommy’s journey into barbecue began in childhood, growing up in Arkansas near Texas, where barbecue isn’t just food — it’s culture.

His uncle was a competitive pitmaster, and from an early age Tommy learned the patience, discipline and respect required to smoke meat properly. Over the past five years, he has refined his craft using traditional offset smokers, perfecting low-and-slow techniques the way they’re done in Texas.

Jody - The Chef

Jody brings the precision, creativity and depth of a trained chef. Having worked as a chef and head chef in top restaurants, her passion lies in flavour fusion, balancing classic barbecue profiles with fresh, modern and distinctly Australian accents.

Together with Tommy, she develops Smokin' Gunns’ house-made rubs and sauces, ensuring every dish is layered, bold and unforgettable.

Our Story, Your feast

Some couples bond over music or travel, Tommy and Jody fell in love over smoke, fire and food. What started as cooking together for family and friends slowly turned into long conversations, late nights and a shared dream of building something of their own. Smokin' Gunn's BBQ is that dream made real — a life built around slow-cooked meals, open skies and feeding people well. It’s a love story told through flavour, fire and the simple joy of doing what they love, side by side.
